Why "Share the Canary" ?

Distortion, fabrication, and falsification on the net, advertising, and in the news is suffocating our lives

Coal miners once had a suffocating problem. They could be in an area of a mine that was choking and killing them without realizing it. They found that a canary was affected by toxins much faster. Canaries falling in their cage would alert them to get out.

Many of us live in situations that are choking our creativity, our happiness and our lives. Whether it's politics, friends, the neighborhood or the world of today, we need to be alert, we need a canary. Each of us can help by Sharing a canary story. What has suffocated you and how can you alert others to the dangers? -  #Share the Canary

This is not about sharing your point of view, your side of the story. What we need to find are  deceptions that point us in one direction or the other. There are many powerful forces, with different agendas, that work everyday to put a cloud over our heads. We need a lot of canaries to point out the toxic clouds. Many of these clouds are subtle and creep into us and slowly take hold. Without a canary you may never notice.

An example of a "Canary" story. Most people today are aware that smoking is very bad for our health, yet we see people smoking every day. Why do they even start? Following is what I would call a canary story, but it is just one regarding smoking. There are many others.

Why do you think they call paid professionals on Instagram and other social media, "Influencers"? Could it be because they influence people? Many of these people make money influencing young people to smoke. An excerpt from a recent story: "123 hashtags associated with these companies’ tobacco products have been viewed 8.8 billion times in the United States alone and 25 billion times around the world."

The canary (the story) warns us of a literal toxic cloud. These influencers use cigarettes and cigarette packages in luxury photos to subtly let us know that the important people (well-known, followed, admired) like smoking so why shouldn't you? Sorry to say it's working.
